Bike Club Meeting Notes

Monday, February 6, 2012

Attendance:  22 members, 2 guests

The minutes of January’s meeting were accepted.

Treasurer’s Report:  $231.24 representing 31 members – 16 households

Our Guest Speakers – Peter Patterson and Carl Fomano gave us a presentation on the Relay for Life which is being held on April 13 and 14 at the Southpoint Baptist Fellowship Church on Hwy. 27.  We will discuss at next months’ meeting whether the club will participate.

The New Smyrna Beach trip, which had been scheduled for February 22nd, has now been changed to March 8th.  Jan Sparkes will hand out maps at our next meeting.  We will meet at the Great Hall at 8:00 a.m.

Please add the Van Fleet Breakfast ride to your calendars for February 22nd, meeting at the Great Hall at 8:00 a.m.

Tom Dixon gave a report on the Talahassee/St. Marks Trail ride scheduled for April 16-18.  We will be staying at the Wakulla Springs Lodge 1-850-421-2000.  We will leave the Great Hall at 8:30 a.m. and drive to Brantford where we will ride on the Suwannee River Gate Greenway for about 20 miles.  We will have a picnic lunch at the Ivy River Memorial Park.  After the ride we will drive to Wakulla Springs Lodge.  The next day we will ride the Talahassee/St. Marks Trail about 10 miles north, turn around and ride about 15 miles south to St. Marks where we will have lunch.  We will then ride back to the cars and return to the lodge.  The rest of the afternoon will be at your leisure to explore the parks and springs – swim, ride the trails in the state park (fat tires required), explore Talahassee etc.  The third day we will either ride the trail once again or ride the Nature Coast Trail at Fanning Springs.

Our master photographer, Bob Smith, showed a very entertaining and comical video presentation on the Sebring trip from last December.  The video had many athlete interviews and lots of eating scenes.

Ron reported that the community rides for March will remain at 9:00 a.m.

Pat reported that unfortunately our website hosting will be discontinued by Microsoft as of the end of April.  Unless we are willing to pay a monthly fee for hosting our site, we will need to establish our website at another free site.  Pat has moved about half of our web content to www.rhbike.webs.com.  She will continue to move our web content over to the new site during the  next few weeks.  Both our old site and the new one will be in use until the end of April.  Unfortunately the new site will have advertising alongside our content which you can just ignore.

Check out our new bulletin board, which Marylou has once again done a wonderful job putting together.

Next meeting will be Monday, March 5th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Rec. Center.
